📌 Position Overview

ADB is seeking a Safeguard Specialist (National Consultant) to support its projects in ensuring compliance with environmental and social safeguards. The specialist will be involved in the monitoring, review, and reporting on safeguard issues related to ADB’s operations. This role will require expertise in environmental science, environmental management, and social safeguards, along with significant experience in related fields.

🎯 Key Responsibilities

The Safeguard Specialist will be responsible for:

• Conducting environmental and social impact assessments for ADB-funded projects.
• Ensuring that projects comply with ADB’s safeguard policies and local regulations.
• Reviewing and monitoring the implementation of environmental and social management plans.
• Providing technical guidance and recommendations for the integration of safeguards in project planning and execution.
• Coordinating with project teams, government officials, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental and social standards.
• Preparing reports on safeguard compliance and conducting field visits to monitor the progress of environmental and social mitigation measures.
• Reviewing and providing inputs for project documentation, including terms of reference (ToRs), technical reports, and proposals.

📝 Eligibility Criteria

• Education:
• A Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a closely related field is required.
• Experience:
• A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in environmental and social monitoring, ideally in a development context.
• Previous experience working on ADB-funded projects or similar international development initiatives will be considered an advantage.
• Skills:
• Strong knowledge of environmental and social safeguard policies and regulations.
• Experience in project monitoring, report preparation, and fieldwork.
• Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, stakeholders, and government agencies.
• Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
